Bringing Industry and Education Together to Stimulate Student Engagement & Career Exploration (30 minutes)

67% of kids in the US do not know what STEM professionals do. Companies want to contribute to help bridge this gap but engaging their employees in the classroom is easily said than done. Eric Reeves from HighSteps and Lynne Garrison from NC New Schools will share their views on using an online platform, Nepris to bring industry and education together to stimulate student engagement  while providing businesses an effective way to scale education outreach.

LearnTrials: Learning What's Working in EdTech (30 minutes)

Presenter: Karl Rectanus, CEO of Lea(R)n
America's schools spend $5billion a year on education technology -- but they don't know what works. Karl Rectanus, CEO of Lea(R)n, an education innovation firm based in North Carolina, will share how their online platform,, leverages teachers’ experience with other data sets, to create data-driven report cards on virtually any classroom technology -- giving schools more accurate information and reducing by 80% the time and cost of piloting new technologies.
