State’s Best Honored at NCTA 21 Awards Print E-mail
Raleigh, N.C. (Nov. 16, 2007) – The North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA), the primary voice of the technology industry in North Carolina, is pleased to announce today the winners of the 2007 NCTA 21 Awards. Winners were recognized last night at the annual awards gala at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Cary, N.C., presented in conjunction with title sponsor Grant Thornton. The theme for this year's event was “A Blockbuster Year” and was attended by more than 500 business leaders from across the state.

 

The NCTA 21 Awards are recognized as the state’s largest and most prestigious awards devoted to celebrating innovation and high-tech excellence in North Carolina. This annual showcase honors  companies and individuals who represent the best and brightest in technology and business and have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation. The awards are grouped in five categories: Technology Industry Awards, Stage of Development Awards, Functional Awards, Leadership Awards and Excellence Awards. The 2007 Winners in each category are as follows:

 

Technology Industry Awards
Software Company of the Year: SAS Institute Inc.
Health Care/Pharmaceutical Company of the Year: GlaxoSmithKline
Electronics Company of the Year: RF Micro Devices
Communications Company of the Year: Overture Networks
Consumer Technology Company of the Year: LED Lighting Fixtures

 

Stage of Development Awards
Early Stage: Yap, Inc.
Midsize: ChannelAdvisor Corporation
Large: Epic Games

 

Functional Awards
Top Service Company of the Year: Queen Associates, Inc.
Top Growth Company of the Year: SciQuest, Inc.
Top Venture Capital Invested: InnerPulse
Top Government/Non-Profit Technology:  WinstonNet, Inc.

 

Leadership Awards
Corporate Citizenship: Microsoft Corporation
Media: Business Leader

Excellence Awards
Private Company of the Year: Motricity

Volunteer of the Year Award
The NCTA Volunteer of the Year Award is given to an individual who has helped successfully promote the goals and objectives of NCTA in an outstanding manner. This year Anne McClelland, Senior Director of Microsoft Corporation and 2007 Vice Chair of the NCTA Board of Directors was presented the award. “Those of us at Microsoft who have been involved in NCTA feel it is our privilege to do so – whether we are serving on the Board, on various committees, or when engaging in events like this one tonight.  I am delighted and honored to receive this award, and as in-coming Chairman of NCTA, I am very committed to continuing to carry the torch of the vision of this great organization as we transition to new leadership in 2008 and beyond.” 

 

Public Leadership Awards
NCTA would like to recognize Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand, of Cumberland and Bladen Counties. A past two-time winner of this award, Senator Rand continues to demonstrate his leadership and support for technology in North Carolina. Also NCTA recognized Representative Pryor Gibson of Anson and Union Counties, Senator David W. Hoyle of Gaston County, and Representatives Margaret Dickson and Rick Glazier, both representing Cumberland County.

 

Outstanding Achievement Award
Each year, NCTA also presents an Outstanding Achievement Award to an individual who has demonstrated a career-long commitment to the advancement of the technology industry in North Carolina. This year the award was presented to Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue. “I’m honored to receive this award,” said Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue. “It’s a reflection of the successes our partnership has had, including opening the Defense and Security Technology Accelerator in Fayetteville and increasing technology in our schools.  And it’s that kind of partnership that’s going to make sure North Carolina is prepared to compete in the global economy.” 

 

“The NCTA 21 Awards recognizes companies and individuals in North Carolina for their diligence and innovation in implementing successful business plans, excelling in the marketplace and their contributions to the community,” says Bob Hawkins, 2007 Chairman of the NCTA Board of Directors. “We look forward to this event every year so we can celebrate not only the finalists but all the companies and individuals who actively promote the growth of knowledge-based jobs in North Carolina.”
